Most commonly 3D formats are SBS (Side by side) and TAB (Top and Bottom). These days you can also see videos in HSBS where video uses 1080p resolution and still packs SBS so while view a 3D video in HSBS format you are actually getting lower resolution since its divided by 2.
So consider 3D image as two images shot at a different angle so stitching them will be in a similar way as you do in usual image.
