Hey guys,
Just wondering can I use an 8051 chip to monitor someone's heartbeat and then sent the results via bluetooth to a pc/phone
There's kinda a thread on it here but its like 5 years old

If you can deal with the detecting side of things it should be quite easy.
Serial Bluetooth adapters are cheaply available on Ebay.
Just send your results as a serial message to the PC.

IR based heart rate sensor are easy to make.. As ExperimenterUK said, if you are done with reading from sensor then you can send it over bluetooth via a serial bluetooth module with serial port profile.

Thanks guys, thats good to hear, its been a while since I've done any building/programming.
Ya I'll just work on reading from the sensor first before I move onto the bluetooth side of things.
Can you guys recommend any heartbeat project that I could follow?
(Preferably one using Keil uvision as I've used that before)

There are lots of posts on heart rate monitor on forum. Just do a search... Here are few for reference:

Thanks thats great, think I'll try this circuit

but instead of using the Sunrom sensor at input P1.0,I'll switch that for this

Would that be ok to do?

Did you find out it worked or not for you? I suggest you test output of circuit on Oscilloscope first.

Still waiting on some parts to arrive but do you see a reason from the above schematic why it wouldn't work?

Actually would anyone recommend a particular type of bluetooth adapter to go with the AT89S52 or are they all kinda the same

mostly bluetooth modules are same. All you need to look for is SPP support.
Any progress on the sensor side?
