Hello!
Can u please tell me how to control 8051 microcontroller using VB6 or VB 2005. I want to communicate with 8051 using a graphical interface on a PC. The protocol i am using is MODBUS protocol.
I want to send a message to 8051 from the PC and then 8051 should transmit some data, which is already in its memory bank back to the PC.
Can u tell me where can i get any stuff regarding this. Or Can u help me?
Please!

chirag5 ,
i could certainly help u if u were using serial com port(RS232) for communication ....,
now since u r using MODBUS i beleive u should use a bitbanging code for modbus..
wait for my next post i'll send u a ref link

well yes but u dont use simple mscom port (serial) directly for
industry standard projects..
u have to use modbus if u want to implement somekind of tcp/ip
or other network protocol....
reason => it is faster if u want to send large blocks(chunk) of data.. :-)

yeah i know.. also it can be used for long distances.. RS485 is really good did you try googleing? you will surely get stuff..
instead of searching MODBUS, search for RS485 for alternative results...

well here are some reference links which can help you..

I am using RS485 as physical layer. If i directly connect the RS485 from the com port to 8051 and then transfer some messsage from the PC and Scan the ports of 8051 for serial recieving. Will it work?
