Controlling a toy car via SMS using microcontroller

Like the title said, is it possible? I have read from the forum that it is possible to connect a mobile phone to a microcontroller. My plan is, I want to connect a mobile phone that can send and receive an AT commands (will 5110 or 6210 support AT commands?). When I sms that mobile phone with a message "Forward", I want that phone to forward that message to the microcontroller (or the microcontroller automatically detect that "Forward" message). Then the microcontroller will start the toy car's motor to move forward for about 15 sec. Now if I send a "Backward" message to the mobile phone, it will move the toy car backward. It's fine for me not to add the steering part, I just want to know how can I move it forward and backward.
Can anyone tell me where to start to do this project, Bec. I'm new with microcontroller...
Can anyone tell me what will be the materials and software I'll be needing for this project...
And are there any simulator available?
Thanks in advance! I hope someone can really help me do this project...

To start, Get a phone with AT Command first. Its better if you go with Sony Erricsson mobile phones as most of them support AT Commands (like T610). Nokia phones are uncertain and hardly any information available online.
So as soon as you get a phone, connect it to Hyper Terminal in your PC, settings are:
Baud: 9600
Data: 8-bit
Parity: none
Stop-bit: 1
Flowcontrol: none
type "AT" you must get a reply OK from phone, if yes then you have taken first step towards your project. after that programming of controller and hardware design thats all

Thanks

well thats not possible i guess. why dont you use a GSM modem? look if you can find in market if anyone selling GSM modems. They are far better than connecting a phone.
