Hi, This is my first mail. I have made few designs using GSM Modem from Wavecomm. However they are expensive. GSM Modem with USB interface are available easily and at around Rs 3000/- CDMA USB Modems cost even less and TATA INDICOM is selling at Rs 2250/-

Has any one worked on them. I would like to know as well as share my knowledge.

hi vinay,
thanks for the info. USB interfacing with the micro is a little complicated. Are the CDMA modems available with standard RS232 outputs? Also would like to know if they support AT commands.
:-)

CDMA modems are available with RS232 also. One vendor is WAVECOM. However RS232 based modems are expensive are difficult to procure. However USB based GSM and CDMA modems are popular as they are available in all mobile phone shops for use with computers for internet access on the move.

CDMA also support AT commands very much similar to GSM or Hayes.

I have been able to use CDMA/GSM modem with AT commands in Windows/Linux.

Now I am working on micro controller with USB so that I can use easily available USB Modems.

Looking for support thru this forum.

you can use SIMCOM's module instead of WAVCOM. price difference is huge for obvious reasons.
even if you are using those USB controllers, i dont think its possible to use those USM modems.

Thanks, Please guide me from where to procure one or two SIMCOM modems and how much they costs.

It is possible to use USB controller to access USB Modem. I have used USB PEN DRIVE and perform read/write operation on it. USB Modem will be much more simpler. Hope to have a working concept in next 3 days.

Best wishes.

Great work with the pen drive Vinay.
Can you share some details...
Which usb host did you use?
Did you implement a filesystem or only raw read/write?

I used Motorola (Freescale JM series micro controller).

I did file read/write.

Will share details say may be in next one week. Right now I just used a ready program available on freescale website and used a USD100 kit from Freescale called DEMOJM16.

JM has usb On-The-Go interface. There is USB stack that is available. like one available for TCP/IP or WiFi.

Please let me know from where SIMCOM GSM modules are available locally .
